Steering Gear: Removal
1989 Subaru Justy DLSECTION Removal
- Disconnect battery ground cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove both front wheels. Remove tie rod end cotter pins and castle nuts. Using a puller, separate tie rod ends from steering knuckles.
- Disconnect "U" joint from pinion gear. On XT, remove heat riser from exhaust manifold and air cleaner. Disconnect exhaust manifold. Pull manifold down out of way. Remove pinion shaft rubber boot.
- On all models, remove steering gear-to-crossmember bolts. Lower steering gear until pinion gear is disconnected from "U" joint. Rotate steering gear backward. Remove gear housing from left side.
