2016 Scion iM Automatic CVT TransSECTION Procedure
  1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  2. REMOVE FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  3. SEPARATE FRONT SPEED SENSOR 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, disengage the clamp and separate the front speed sensor wire and front flexible hose from the front shock absorber assembly and steering knuckle.

      NOTE:

      Be sure to separate the front speed sensor from the front shock absorber assembly completely.

    2. Remove the bolt and separate the front speed sensor from the steering knuckle.

      NOTE:
      • Prevent foreign matter from contacting the sensor tip.
      • Be careful not to damage the front speed sensor.
      • Clean the front speed sensor installation hole and the contact surfaces every time the front speed sensor is removed.
  4. SEPARATE FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY 

    See step  2

  5. REMOVE FRONT DISC 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  6. SEPARATE TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  7. SEPARATE FRONT LOWER NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and separate the front lower No. 1 suspension arm sub-assembly from the front lower ball joint assembly.

      NOTE:

      Do not damage the boot of the ball joint.

  8. SEPARATE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Put matchmarks on the front drive shaft assembly and front axle hub sub-assembly.

      *a Matchmark
    2. Using a plastic hammer, separate the front drive shaft assembly from the front axle assembly.
      NOTE:

      Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot.

      HINT: 

      If it is difficult to separate the front drive shaft assembly from the front axle assembly, tap the end of the front drive shaft assembly using a brass bar and a hammer.

  9. REMOVE FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and front axle assembly from the front shock absorber assembly.

      NOTE:
      • When removing the nuts, keep the bolts from rotating.
      • Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot.
  10. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Secure the front axle assembly between aluminum plates in a vise.
      NOTE:

      Do not overtighten the vise.

    2. Remove the 4 bolts, front axle hub sub-assembly and front disc brake dust cover from the steering knuckle.

      NOTE:
      • Do not drop the front axle hub sub-assembly.
      • Be careful not to damage the speed sensor rotor or contact surfaces.
      • Do not allow foreign matter to contact the speed sensor rotor or contact surfaces.
