Inspection Procedure

2009 Scion xD AutomaticSECTION Inspection Procedure
  1. CONFIRM DTC OUTPUT (CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM) 
    1. Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on and turn the tester on.
    3. Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).
    4. Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).
    5. Recheck for DTC (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

      Result 

      RESULT DESCRIPTION

      Result Proceed to
      CAN communication DTC is not output A
      CAN communication DTC is output B

    B: Go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART  (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )

    A: Go to Next Step 

  2. CONFIRM DTC OUTPUT (ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM) 
    1. Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on and turn the tester on.
    3. Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).
    4. Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).
    5. Recheck for DTC (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

      Result 

      RESULT DESCRIPTION

      Result Proceed to
      Engine control DTC is not output A
      Engine control DTC is output B

    B: Go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART  (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )

    A: Go to Next Step 

  3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (COOLANT TEMP) 
    1. Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on and turn the tester on.
    3. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Active Test" (See DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST  ).

      Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test: 

      BODY ELECTRICAL / COMBINATION METER / ACTIVE TEST

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range
      Water Temperature Meter Operation LOW / NORMAL / HIGH Value selected during Active Test is displayed

      OK: Value selected during "Active Test" is displayed. 

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (COOLANT TEMP) 
    1. Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on and the tester on.
    3. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Data List" (See DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST  ).

      OK: Vehicle's coolant temperature and tester value are the same. 

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK : USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK  (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )
