Preliminary Procedures

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (LAT) or Drive Belt Replacement (LE5) .
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  4. Remove the right engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side .
  5. Remove drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement (LAT) or Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement (LE5) .
  6. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
  7. Remove compressor hose assembly. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Replacement (LAT)  or Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Replacement (LE5)  or Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Replacement (LY7)  or Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Replacement (LZ4) .
1 A/C Compressor Bolt (Qty: 3)
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .

Tip:  Tighten the A/C compressor mounting bolts in sequence shown in graphic.

Tighten:  50 N.m (37 lb ft)

2 A/C Compressor Assembly

Procedure

  1. Use a low viscosity, poly-alkylene glycol (PAG) oil. Use of the incorrect oil can result in compressor failure.
  2. When replacing the A/C compressor, balance the compressor oil. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Oil Balancing .
  3. Using J 39400  leak test A/C compressor fittings. See Special Tools .
