Preliminary Procedures

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and RechargingΒ .
  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (LAT) .
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  4. Remove the right engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side .
  5. Remove drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement (LE5) or Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement (LAT) .
  6. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
  7. Remove compressor hose assembly. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Replacement (LAT)Β .
1 A/C Compressor Bolt (Qty: 3)
CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .

Tip:Β  Tighten the A/C compressor mounting bolts in sequence shown in graphic.

Tighten:Β  50 N.m (37 lb ft)

2 A/C Compressor Assembly

Procedure

  1. Use a low viscosity, poly-alkylene glycol (PAG) oil. Use of the incorrect oil can result in compressor failure.
  2. When replacing the A/C compressor, balance the compressor oil. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Oil BalancingΒ .
  3. Using J 39400Β  leak test A/C compressor fittings. See Special ToolsΒ .
