Removal Procedure

2003 Saturn Ion 3 4D Sedan, StandardSECTION Removal Procedure

  1. Shift the transmission into neutral.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE in Battery.
  3. Disconnect the transmission control module connectors, noting proper orientation.
  4. Remove the bolt and disconnect the large engine control module connector (4).
  5. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer near the engine control module.

  6. Disconnect the EVAP purge solenoid connector and lay wiring harness aside.
  7. Using the J 36346Β  or equivalent, remove the control cable assembly from the park/neutral position switch lever.
  8. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch harness connector.

  9. Remove the park/neutral position switch lever nut and lever.

  10. Remove the park/neutral position switch bolts.

    Important:Β  Ensure that the manual shaft is fully seated into the transmission.

  11. Remove the park/neutral position switch from the vehicle.
