- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, command rear defogger relay ON and OFF. If rear defogger relay operation does not match scan tool display, go to next step. If rear defogger relay operation matches scan tool display, problem is intermittent.
- Turn ignition off. Check REAR DEFOG (30-amp) fuse, located in underhood fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in rear defogger grid power circuit and repair as necessary. See WIRING DIAGRAMSΒ .
- Remove rear defogger relay. Rear defogger relay is located in instrument panel fuse box. Connect test light between rear defogger relay coil voltage supply terminal and rear defogger relay coil control circuit at rear defogger relay socket in instrument panel fuse box. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, command rear defogger relay ON and OFF. If test light turns on and off with each scan tool command, go to next step. If test light remains on or off with each scan tool command, go to step Β 5 .
- Check for poor connection to rear defogger relay. Repair connections as necessary and retest operation. If rear defogger relay connections check okay, replace rear defogger relay and retest operation.
- Turn ignition off. If test light remains on with each scan tool command, leave test light connected and go to next step. If test light remains off with each scan tool command, replace IGN 3 (10-amp) fuse and retest operation.
- Gain access to Body Control Module (BCM), located under upper instrument panel trim panel, behind instrument cluster. See BODY CONTROL MODULEΒ under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect Brown 24-pin BCM connector J3. Using Terminal Repair Kit (J-44020), remove terminal B04 (White wire) from Brown 24-pin BCM connector J3. See Fig 1 . Connect Brown 24-pin BCM connector J3 to BCM. Ensure test light is still installed in place of rear defogger relay coil-side terminals. Turn ignition on. If test light is illuminated, go to next step. If test light is not illuminated, replace BCM and retest operation.
- Repair short to ground in White wire between Brown 24-pin BCM connector J3 terminal B04 and Black 24-pin instrument panel connector C3 terminal D6. See Fig 2 .
