Steering Gear: Installation
2000 Saturn SC1 AutomaticSECTION Installation
- Install steering gear. Tighten steering gear mounting bolts and NEW nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ . Connect intermediate shaft onto steering gear shaft. Apply Loctite No. 242 to pinch bolt threads. Tighten pinch bolt to specification. Install left inner fender splash shield.
- Thoroughly clean and lubricate tie rod end stud threads. Lubricate threaded part of tie rod stud only. DO NOT lubricate smooth, tapered part of tie rod stud. Install tie rod end studs into steering knuckles.
- Install and tighten tie rod end castle nut to specification. If cotter pin hole in castle nut does not align with cotter pin hole in tie rod stud, tighten castle nut until holes align. DO NOT loosen castle nut to align holes. Install new cotter pin. Connect negative battery cable. Install wheels. Tighten wheel lug nuts to specification. Lower vehicle. Adjust toe as necessary.
