DTC C0241: PWM Delivered Torque Reduction Malfunction

2000 Saturn LW2 AutomaticSECTION DTC C0241: PWM Delivered Torque Reduction Malfunction

Traction is simultaneously controlled by the EBTCM and ECM/PCM. The EBTCM sends a requested torque message via a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal to the ECM/PCM requesting a desired engine torque level for proper traction control system operation. EBTCM supplies the pull-up voltage.

DTC will set when there is an interruption in the requested torque circuit between EBTCM and ECM/PCM, a defective requested torque signal is detected by ECM/PCM, PWM signal out or normal range (95-97 percent) is sent back to EBTCM via the delivered torque circuit, EBTCM receives an out of range signal for 30 milliseconds continuously, or ignition voltage is present and EBTCM detects engine speed greater than 480 RPM.

When DTC is set, EBTCM disables traction control. Check for open, short to ground or short to voltage in requested torque circuit. Check for faulty wiring, terminal corrosion or poor connections or ECM/PCM not receiving information from EBTCM.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • β€’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • β€’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • β€’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • β€’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • β€’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
