Timing Belt: Installation
2000 Saturn LW2 AutomaticSECTION Installation
- To install, remove crankshaft holder. Raise and support vehicle. Start installation of belt at crankshaft pulley. Install timing belt with double dash marks aligned with oil pump and drive gear marks. Install Timing Belt Holder (J42069-30) onto pinch belt to prevent teeth from jumping during installation. See Fig 1. Lower vehicle
- Route timing belt through belt tensioner and through right bank camshaft gears, ensuring timing belt marks are aligned with marks on rear timing belt cover. See Fig 2. Route timing belt through camshaft idler pulleys. Route timing belt through left bank camshaft gears, ensuring timing belt marks are aligned with marks on rear timing belt cover.
- Measure belt deflection between camshaft gear No. 4 and camshafts No. 3 and 4. Maximum deflection is .4" (10 mm). Adjust belt deflection, if necessary. To adjust, rotate idler pulley nut for camshafts No. 3 and 4 counterclockwise, until nut is at 12 o'clock position. Tighten idler pulley lock bolt.
