Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Replacement
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in Cautions and Notices.
1. Open hood.
2. Raise vehicle.
3. From underneath front of vehicle, disengage spring on primary latch from core support.
4. Turn and partially remove spring to provide slack in cable to disconnect cable from hook in spring.
5. Lower vehicle.
6. Mark cable routing through access holes in body by placing tape in these positions.
7. Remove cable along the front end of engine compartment.
8. Remove cable along the drivers side of engine compartment.
9. Remove lower I/P closeout panel (hush panel) push retainers.
10. Swing I/P closeout (hush panel) forward and counter-clockwise to remove.
11. Remove or position aside lower heating duct.
12. Unsnap hood release handle from instrument panel bracket by using two small screwdrivers to disengage retainer clip on both sides.
13. Slide hood release handle forward and down.
14. If unable to slide hood release handle forward, use pliers to assist by placing one end of pliers on tab of hood release lever base near bracket, and the other end of pliers on the forward edge of instrument panel bracket. Squeeze pliers and possibly use screw drivers in slot as in previous step.
15. Pull cable through front of dash by using a screwdriver to work grommet loose, then remove cable.
Installation Procedure
1. Partially install hood release cable through front of dash.
2. Route cable through access previously marked with tape.
3. Install cable through access previously marked with tape.
4. Snap hood release handle to instrument panel.
5. Raise vehicle.
6. Connect cable to hook in spring.
7. Install spring in latch mechanism by turning and placing in position.
8. Engage spring in core support.
9. Lower vehicle.
10. Install lower I/P closeout panel (hush panel) and push retainers.
11. Verify correct installation of all parts removed.
12. Close hood.
13. Open hood to verify correct cable operation and release.
14. Close hood.
