2000 Saturn LS1 AutomaticSECTION Circuit Description

Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) sensor is a thermistor. TFT sensor is part of Transmission Fluid Pressure (TFP) manual valve position switch. PCM supplies a 5-volt reference signal to sensor. When transaxle fluid is cold, sensor resistance is high and PCM senses a high signal voltage. As transaxle fluid warms, sensor resistance lowers and PCM senses lower voltage. PCM uses TFT reading in order to control TCC apply & release, line pressure adjustments, and temperature compensated shifts. DTC P0712 will set when PCM detects a continuous short to ground in TFT circuit or TFT sensor.
