NOTE: If coolant gauge is inaccurate, use scan tool in BCM mode to read coolant gauge position from BCM.
  1. Connect scan tool to DLC. Start engine. Using scan tool, access engine coolant temperature. If scan tool displays engine coolant temperature, go to next step. If scan tool does not display engine coolant temperature, repair engine coolant temperature signal circuit as necessary. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  2. Using scan tool, perform instrument panel cluster LAMP and GAUGE SWEEP tests. If coolant temperature gauge sweeps properly, check for intermittent poor connections. If coolant temperature gauge does not sweep properly, replace instrument cluster.
