Control Arm & Ball Joint: Installation
1997 Saturn SC1 AutomaticSECTION Installation
- Install control arm onto tension strut, but DO NOT install nut and washer. See Figure . Position end of control arm into cradle. Install bolt and nut. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ table.
- Install nut and washer securing tension strut to control arm. Tighten to specification. Thoroughly clean and lubricate ball joint stud threads. DO NOT lubricate unthreaded portion of stud.
- Connect control arm to steering knuckle. Install castle nut. Tighten to specification. Install new cotter pin (if necessary, tighten castle nut further, but only as far as is necessary to install cotter pin).
- Install inner fender splash shield. Remove rust and corrosion from mounting surfaces of wheel and brake rotor. Install wheel. Tighten wheel lug nuts to specification. Check front wheel alignment. See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT.
