Inner Tie Rod R & I: Removal
1994 Saturn SL2 AutomaticSECTION Removal
- Raise and support vehicle on hoist. Remove front wheels. Loosen tie rod end-to-inner tie rod jam nut (adjusting nut). Remove steering gear. See STEERING GEAR R & I .
- Unscrew tie rod end from inner tie rod. Remove jam nut. Remove boot clamps and boot. Slide shock damper off inner tie rod, toward steering gear.CAUTION: If rack is not prevented from rotating when loosening or tightening inner tie rod, steering gear will be damaged.
- If removing right inner tie rod, remove left boot for access to rack teeth. Place a shop towel over rack teeth, and position appropriate wrench over shop towel to rigidly hold and support rack. See Figure . While holding rack, remove inner tie rod with wrench.
