Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
Malfunction History & Information Flags
Engine information flags will not cause SERVICE ENGINE SOON or SHIFT TO D2 light to glow. Unlike hard failures and intermittent failures, information flags and malfunction history will not be erased from PCM memory after 50 engine restarts.
Malfunction history includes data from the 4 most likely sensors which can cause a trouble code or information flag to be stored in PCM memory. When a malfunction occurs, the PCM records the appropriate sensor data. Information flag and malfunction history information can only be retrieved and cleared from PCM memory using a Saturn Portable Diagnostic Tool (PDT).
