Code 44 - Left Front Motor Frozen: Notes

1992 Saturn SL1 AutomaticSECTION Notes

There are 3 ABS actuator motors: one for each front brake, and one for rear brakes. Major components of each motor assembly are a motor, drive gear assembly, ball screw, nut, piston, and check valve. If ABS module determines that left front wheel is about to skid, it closes solenoid by-pass valve. Left front motor retracts piston to close check valve. Brake pressure is then modulated by hydraulic piston, under control of ABS module. If motor is frozen, control module disables ABS and turns on BRAKE and ANTI-LOCK warning lights.
