SCAN TOOL USAGE
The PCM can communicate a variety of data though most scan tools through the ALDL connector.
Not all scan tools are compatible with Saturn's own scan tool. Specifically, some scanners may not read the snapshot data that the PCM will generate when a code is set. Scanners might not also be able to make use of the data in the SCAN TOOL GENERAL INFORMATION TABLE.
SATURN SERVICE STALL SYSTEM
The Service Stall System (SSS) is a specialized piece of diagnostic equipment used by Saturn to perform various tests and repairs. When applicable, the use of this tool is referenced for the technician.
One of the most important uses of the Service Stall System (SSS) is the reprograming of the PCM's EEPROM. Cautions When Servicing PCM
CAUTION: The EEPROM is not serviceable and should not be removed for replacement. If the PCM is removed from the vehicle, reprogramming of the EEPROM will be necessary. Reprogramming of the EEPROM is only possible with the Service Stall System (SSS) hardware available at authorized dealer locations. Check with a Saturn dealer before performing PCM or EEPROM replacement.
