Service Information for Installation of Valet Switch and LED for Retailer Installed Security System on Vehicles Equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System
MODELS AFFECTED:
All 1992 Saturns with supplemental inflatable restraints (SIR)
PURPOSE:
Installation instructions for the valet switch and LED on the lower steering column shroud on vehicles equipped with supplemental inflatable restraints.
PROCEDURE:
CAUTION: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT (SIR), REFER TO CAUTIONS IN THE "SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT (SIR) SERVICE MANUAL" UNDER "ON-VEHICLE SERVICE" (AVAILABLE FOR THE 92-1/2 MODEL YEAR) AND THE SIR COMPONENT AND WIRING LOCATION VIEW BEFORE PERFORMING SERVICE ON OR AROUND SIR COMPONENTS OR WIRING. FAILURE TO FOLLOW CAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN POSSIBLE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, PERSONAL INJURY, OR OTHERWISE UNNEEDED SIR SYSTEM REPAIRS.
The following revisions to the Retailer Installed Security System Instructions are required for Saturn vehicles equipped with supplemental inflatable restraints (SIR).
Substitute the following for installation steps 11 and 12:
11. Drill a 15/64 inch hole for the LED and a 1 inch hole for the valet switch in the left side of the lower steering column cover. (Refer to Figure 1 for hole locations.)
NOTE:
The first printing and distribution of this bulletin includes nine self-adhesive templates. (Future shipments of RIA Security Systems will contain a template.) A copy of this template is shown in Figure 2. Attach template to the lower steering column shroud and drill holes where indicated.
Add the following notice between installation steps 13 and 14.
NOTICE:
On models with SIR, attach to the horn wire by cutting and butt splicing to the green wire in the 4-wire harness going to the inflator module, located under the upper steering column cover.
