FRONT BRAKE DUST SHIELD - ELIMINATED FROM VEHICLES-INFO.

Model(s): All 1991-92 Saturn Models

Bulletin No.: 92-T-13-SATURN

Date: 04/15/1992

PURPOSE

Dust shields were removed from front brake assemblies due to engineering studies that have shown dust shields are not necessary and removal of dust shields can improve brake rotor cooling.

VIN BREAKPOINT

Knuckle Assembly Part Numbers Affected First VIN Sequence Number with Shields Removed
Front Left 21011101 NZ109668
Front Right 21011102 NZ109668

CORRECTIVE ACTION

If one of the dust shields becomes damaged on 1991 or 1992 vehicles, repair or replacement is not necessary. Remove the damaged dust shield and the dust shield from the other side, to maintain balance and symmetry. If a new front knuckle assembly is installed, remove the shield from the other front knuckle assembly to maintain balance and symmetry.

NOTE: Early 1992 knuckle assemblies from Saturn Parts may have dust shield bolt attachment holes in the casting. The dust shields were eliminated before the castings were changed, so you may disregard these holes.
