Circuit/System Testing

2010 Saab 9-5SECTION Circuit/System Testing
  1. With the ignition OFF, detach the wiring harness contact from the relevant DVD screen.
  2. With the ignition OFF for two minutes, test whether there is less than 5 Ξ© between the ground circuit connections (see list below) and ground.
    • Ground Connection 8
    • Ground Connection 14
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Check that a test lamp lights between B+ circuit pin 1 and ground.
  5. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  6. With the ignition ON, connect a test lamp between control circuit contact pin 2 and ground.
  7. Play a DVD, activate/deactivate double screens on the radio display. The test lamp should light and go out when double screens are activated/deactivated.
  8. If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  9. If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  10. Play a DVD and test whether there is 1-6 V between video brightness control connection 16 and ground.
  11. If greater than specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  12. If less than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open circuit/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  13. While the DVD plays, command video mode to normal and test whether there is 1-2 V between video mode signal circuit connection 15 and ground.
  14. If greater than specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  15. If less than specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground, or an open circuit/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  16. While the DVD plays, test whether there is 1-3 V between the control circuit connections (see list below) and ground.
    • Video Signal (+) Connection 9
    • Video Signal (-) Connection 10
  17. If greater than specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  18. If less than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open circuit/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  19. If all circuits test normal, replace the DVD screen.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • β€’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • β€’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • β€’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • β€’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • β€’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
