Gear Change Mechanism: Disassembly

1995 Saab 900 SE, 4D Hatchback, StandardSECTION Disassembly
  1. Place gear change mechanism in a soft-jaw vise. Drive out gear change lever shaft spring pin and tap out gear change lever shaft. See Figure . Remove gear change lever.
  2. Place a finger in front of catch ball seat and pull out reverse gear shift shaft. See Figure . Remove catch balls and springs. Remove 5th gear shift shaft, 3rd/4th gear shift shaft and 1st/2nd gear shift shaft in same manner. Remove pins from 5th gear shift shaft and 3rd/4th gear shift shaft.
  3. If forks or actuators need to be replaced, drive out spring pins and remove forks and actuators.
