Principle Of Operation, Relays: Note
Counting from the moment the ignition is switched off, the relay remains in the operated state for an additional five seconds or so if the temperature is about 20°C (68°F), provided that the starter motor has been used. At temperatures below 0°C (32°F) the relay may remain in the operated state for up to about 30 seconds after the ignition has been switched off.

When to See a Mechanic
