- Connect positive terminal of ohmmeter or a self-powered test light (40-volt maximum) to alternator D- terminal. Measure resistance or continuity between terminal D- and each diode stator terminal, one at a time, with stator leads disconnected. See Figure. Test light should glow or ohmmeter should indicate low resistance when negative terminal of test light or ohmmeter is connected to each diode terminal.
- Reverse ohmmeter or test light connections, and repeat each measurement. Test light should not glow or ohmmeter should indicate high resistance. Replace rectifier assembly if any diode is defective.
