Wheel Bearing: Removal

  1. Position Spacer (83 93 209) between upper control arm and body to release tension from upper ball joint. Loosen hub nut. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Align recess on rotor edge with brake pad assembly. Remove brake pads. Remove and support brake caliper. Remove disc brake rotor from hub.
  2. Separate tie rod end from steering arm. Remove bolts holding upper and lower ball joints to control arms. Pull steering knuckle housing and hub from axle shaft and control arms.
  3. Press hub out of steering knuckle assembly. Pull inner bearing race from hub. If no recess is present for puller, chisel race from hub. Remove circlips from steering knuckle assembly and press out bearing.
NOTE: Pressing hub from steering knuckle assembly damages wheel bearing. ALWAYS replace bearing if it has been removed.
