Steering Wheel: Installation

  1. To ensure clockspring is centered, set front wheels to straight-ahead position. Rotate clockspring clockwise until it stops, and then rotate counterclockwise 2 1/2 turns. Maintain clockspring in this position.
  2. Thread air bag module and horn wiring harnesses through hole in steering wheel. Slide steering wheel onto shaft. Align match marks on shaft and steering wheel. Align clockspring with hole in wheel.
  3. Install steering wheel nut, and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ  at the end of this article. Connect air bag module and horn pad electrical connectors. Install air bag module. Install screws on back of steering wheel.
  4. Reactivate SRS. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEMΒ  . Check air bag warning light to ensure system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECKΒ  .
