Fault Code B1331

1994 Saab 900 Base, AutomaticSECTION Fault Code B1331
  1. Record fault code, then erase code. Turn ignition off, then on again. Wait at least 40 seconds with ignition on. If code reoccurs, go to next step. If code does not reoccur, leave ignition on and move steering wheel, wiggle connectors and wires to check for loose contacts. If SRS light starts to flash again and code reoccurs, go to next step.
  2. Install Reference Resistor (84 71 153) to driver-side and passenger-side air bag module. See REFERENCE RESISTOR INSTALLATION under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMΒ  . Turn ignition on and erase fault code. Turn ignition off, then on again. Wait 40 seconds with ignition on. If fault code reoccurs, go to next step. If fault code does not reoccur, driver-side air bag module is defective.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove reference resistor from driver-side air bag. Disconnect control module connector. Connect breakout box to harness side of connector. Turn ignition on and measure voltage between breakout box pin No. 6 and ground, and between pin No. 14 and ground. If battery voltage is present in either test, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present in either test, go to step 5).
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver-side air bag connector. Turn ignition on and measure voltage between breakout box pin No. 16 and ground, and between pin No. 14 and ground. If battery voltage is not present, replace clockspring. If one test shows battery voltage, repair wiring between air bag module connector and control module. Go to step 7).
  5. Turn ignition off. Measure continuity between breakout box pin No. 16 and ground, and between pin No. 14 and ground. If low resistance is present in either test, go to next step. If both tests show high resistance, go to step 7).
  6. Disconnect driver-side air bag connector. Measure resistance between breakout box pin No. 16 and ground, and between pin No. 14 and ground. If both tests show high resistance, replace clockspring. If one test shows low resistance, repair wiring between driver-side air bag connector and control module connector.
  7. Reconnect all connectors. Turn ignition on and erase fault code. Turn ignition off, then on again. Wait at least 40 seconds with ignition on. If code reoccurs, go to SRS LIGHT COMES ON AFTER IGNITION ONΒ  .
