Integrated Central Electronics (Ice)
The ICE system (Integrated Central Electronics) is a programmable electronic control module which replaces or controls a number of relays and supervises and sends out information to or receives it from various components. See Fig 1 .
The ICE electronic control module is programmed in different ways depending on:
- Market specification.
- Type of equipment in the car.
The following functions are controlled by the ICE:
- Full And Dipped Beams
- Follow-Me-Home (Leading Lights)
- Direction Indicators, Hazard Flashers
- Extra Fog Lights
- Switching The A/C Compressor ON/OFF
- Radiator Fan (Full And Dipped Speed)
- Intermittent Operation And Wiping While Washing, Windshield And Rear Window
- Electrical Heating Of Rear Seat (Prepared For)
- Interior Lighting And Reading Lamps
- Seat Belt And Ignition Key Reminders
- Monitoring Of Rear Parking Lights And Brake Lights
- Electrically Operated Front Seats (Power Supply)
- Monitoring Of The Battery Voltage
The following components send information to the ICE:
- Headlamp Switch
- Dipswitch
- Direction Indicator Switch And Switch For Hazard Flashers
- Switch For Extra Fog Lights
- Brake Light Switch
- Temperature Sensor For Coolant
- Pressure Switches A/C
- Switch For Windshield/Rear Window Wipers
- Air Conditioning/Control Panel Sends Signals To The Ice To Switch On The Electrically Heated Rear Window, The Electrically Heated Rear-View Mirrors And The A/C Compressor
- Switch For Electrically Heated Rear Seat (Prepared For)
- Door Switches
- Seat Belt Switch, Driver's Side
- Ignition Switch
The ICE sends information to the following components/electronic control modules:
- Door Open (To Main Instrument And Car Alarm)
- Various Types Of Sounds As A Reminder For Direction Indicators, Seat Belts, Ignition Key And Lights (To The Sid Module)
- Broken Rear Or Brake Light (To The Sid Module)
- Coolant Temperature (To The Main Instrument)
- Preliminary Message On Switching On/Off Of Radiator Fan (To Engine Electronic Control System Motronic 2.10.2)
