1987 Saab 9000 L4-1985cc 2.0L DOHCSECTION Service and Repair

1. Disconnect wiring harness connectors and vacuum hoses to distributor.
2. Release clips securing distributor cap and remove cap and wires.
3. Crank engine until ``O'' mark on flywheel is aligned with pointer and rotor contact is aligned with mark on distributor housing.
4. Disconnect battery ground cable.
5. Remove bolts securing distributor to cam cover and remove distributor.
6. If crankshaft is turned with distributor removed, proceed as follows:
a. Remove No. 1 spark plug and reconnect battery.
b. Crank engine until pressure can be felt at spark plug opening (No. 1 cylinder on compression stroke) and ``O'' mark on flywheel is aligned with pointer.
7. Position distributor in cam cover, rotate distributor shaft until shaft engages in camshaft slot.
8. Rotate distributor housing until mark on housing is aligned with rotor contact, then secure housing.
9. Reverse procedure to complete installation, then check and adjust ignition timing.
