  1. Place shift lever in 3rd gear position. Loosen pinch bolt at gear selector shaft joint on engine side of firewall. See Fig 1 .
  2. Lock gearshift lever into 3rd gear position in gearshift housing with a .24" (6 mm) drift. It may be necessary to pry up carpeting in front of shift lever console for access to shift rod.
  3. Slip Locking Device (87 91 576) into hole in shift lever input shaft and then into differential cover. See Fig 1 . This locks transaxle into 3rd gear. Tighten pinch bolt at gearshift joint to 22-26 ft. lbs. (20-35 N.m).
