2006 Pontiac G6 GTP, 2D Coupe, StandardSECTION Test Description

The number below refers to the step number on the diagnostic table.

  1. 6:  This step tests if the instrument panel cluster (IPC) is able to turn ON the Traction Off indicator.

1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information

  1. Turn OFF the ignition for 5 seconds.
  2. Turn ON the ignition while observing the Traction Off indicator.
Does the Traction Off indicator illuminate for 2 seconds and then turn OFF?
Go to Diagnostic Aids  Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the harness connector of the traction control system (TCS) switch.
  2. Ground the TCS signal circuit at the TCS harness connector.
Does the Traction Off indicator illuminate?
Go to Step 4  Go to Step 5 
4 Replace the TCS switch. Refer to Traction Control Switch Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 9  -
5 Test for an open in the TCS switch signal circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 9  Go to Step 6 
  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Select the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Special Functions menu on the scan tool.
  3. Command the IPC lamps ON.
Does the Traction Off indicator turn ON?
Go to Step 8  Go to Step 7 
7 Replace the IPC. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 9  -
8 Replace the body control module (BCM). Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 9  -

  1. Turn OFF the ignition for 5 seconds.
  2. Turn ON the ignition while observing the Traction Off indicator.
Does the Traction Off indicator illuminate for 2 seconds and then turn OFF?
System OK Go to Step 2
