- Place transmission in Park. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Turn off all accessories. Remove air cleaner. Plug any open vacuum lines. Start engine.
- Install jumper wire between terminals "A" and "B" of ALDL connector. Verify that the "SET TIMING" message is displayed, or "ENGINE SOON" light is flashing.
- Set timing at any speed less than 800 RPM. Remove jumper wire from ALDL. Tighten the distributor hold-down bolt (or nut) and re-check timing.
