Valve Guide Servicing
Insert valve into guide. Lift valve 1/8" (2 mm). Move valve side-to-side and measure amount of movement using a dial indicator. If valve stem clearance is excessive, replace valve. Some valves with oversize stems are used in production and can be identified by stamped number on back side of valve head. Oversize valves and valve guide reamers are available in .003", .015", and .030" oversize.

When to See a Mechanic
