Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
Description & Operation
The electric trunk release system consist of a release button in the glove box, an ignition switch controlled power connection, and a release solenoid in the trunk. Pressing the release button energizes the release solenoid, unlatching the trunk lid. Station wagon models have electric tailgate release. Procedures are the same for tailgates as for trunks.
Some models have an additional pull-down unit that closes the trunk lid when it is lowered. A permanent magnet reversable motor pulls the striker down, locking the trunk lid in a fully closed position. When release solenoid is activated, the motor reverses and allows the trunk lid to rise.
