System Check

1987 Pontiac Firebird Formula, 5.0 H, AutomaticSECTION System Check
  1. From inside of vehicle, close all doors. Turn ignition switch to "RUN" position and place gear selector in "DRIVE". All doors should lock.
  2. Place gear selector in "PARK". All doors should unlock. If any door does not lock, check digital cluster fuses 5, 15 and 19, indicator and gage cluster fuse 16 and circuit breaker 24.
  3. If locks do not lock, ensure that ignition switch is at "RUN" position, all doors are closed and gear selector is not in "PARK". If locks do not unlock, ensure that ignition switch is at "RUN" position and gear selector is in "PARK".
NOTE: Before testing automatic door locks, ensure that the power door locks are operating properly. Repair as necessary. See GENERAL MOTORS POWER DOOR LOCKS article in this section.
