1986 Pontiac 6000 Base, 2D Coupe, 2.5 RSECTION Engine Identification

Engine may be identified from Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) stamped on metal tab located on top of instrument panel at lower left of windshield. The VIN number contains 17 characters. The 8th character identifies engine and 10th character, "G" establishes 1986 model year. VIN number code is also stamped on left side of engine block below cylinder head and on transmission mounting flange. Engine unit and code number label is found on timing cover. Engine code stamping is found on pad at left rear of cylinder block below cylinder head.
