Air Induction System
The Chrysler/Mitsubishi Port Fuel Injection (PFI) engines, called Multi-Point Injection (MPI) by the manufacturer, all use the same basic air induction system. They use a remote air filter (with airflow sensor) ducted to a plenum mounted throttle body.
The 1.5L, 2.0L and 2.6L engines include the Jet Air System which has an additional valve at the top of each combustion chamber to inject a high velocity stream of air during low throttle operation. On intake stroke, air rushes out of jet valve opening into gases around spark plug and produces a strong swirl action in combustion chamber.
The 1.6L Turbo has additional ducting from air filter through a vacuum operated air by-pass valve to the turbo inlet. The air is then forced into the intake manifold by the turbocharger.
Conquest is also equipped with a turbocharger. Turbocharger is water cooled type with intercooler located at front of vehicle. A wastegate valve and actuator control boost pressure.
