Abs/TCS Modulator Gears: Removal
1998 Oldsmobile Achieva 3.1 M, 4T40E/MN4SECTION Removal
- Remove modulator/motor pack assembly from vehicle. See ABS MODULATOR/MOTOR PACK ASSEMBLY or TCS MODULATOR/MOTOR PACK ASSEMBLY. Turn modulator/motor pack assembly upside-down. Remove Torx head screws attaching gear cover to bottom of modulator. See Figure.
- Remove screws attaching motor pack to modulator. See Figure. DO NOT drop motor pack. If motor pack is dropped, replacement is necessary. DO NOT allow gears to turn during removal of gear retaining nuts. Piston in modulator can hit top of bore, damaging piston.
- Insert a drift through holes in gears (not between gear teeth) to recessed hole in modulator base. See Fig 1. Remove gear retaining nuts as necessary. Identify gear position and location for reassembly reference. Remove gears from modulator.
