MODELS/YEARS: 1988-89 EIGHTY-EIGHT ROYALE AND
NINETY-EIGHT REGENCY
NUMBER: 89-T-18

CORP. REF. NO.: 801614R

DATE: November 1988

SECTION: 9J
Due to a change in the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) power supply for 1989, the SIR service tester (J 36884) will not be able to completely diagnose SIR electrical system faults in 1989 Eighty-Eight Royale and Ninety-Eight Regency models or 1988 Delta 88's serviced with 1989 power supplies (part number 16129684 or 16130104). A revised diagnostic procedure (1989 Service Manual or Service Manual Supplement, Section 9J) and a modified tester J 36884-A are to be used for 1988 and 1989 SIR vehicles.

On a contingency basis, the 1988 service tester can be used on 1989 Oldsmobile SIR vehicles except for checking the power supply function, steps 6 & 7 of Section 9J, Page 9J-7. Should you need a tester before yours has been modified, contact Oldsmobile Technical Assistance.
