Double-Offset CV Joints: Disassembly

- Disassembly procedures are similar for inner and outer CV joints. Remove rubber or steel deflector ring, if equipped. Remove CV boot clamp protectors, if equipped, by prying up on tabs on both sides of clamp halves.
- For outer CV joint, use brass drift to tap lightly on bearing cage until it tilts enough to remove 1 ball bearing. Rotate cage and repeat procedure to remove remaining balls from cage.
- On inner CV joint, remove ball retaining ring. Balls will come out when cage and inner race are removed from outer race.
- On outer CV joint, pivot cage and inner race until 90Β° to normal installed position (cage windows will align with lands of outer race). See Figure . Lift cage and inner race from outer race. Rotate inner race upward and out of cage.
