Work Procedure
- PRECONDITIONING
Make sure that all of the following conditions are satisfied.
Learning will be cancelled if any of the following conditions are missed for even a moment.
- Battery temperature: More than 5°C (41°F)
- Engine coolant temperature: More than 70°C (158°F)
- Shift lever: P or N
- Electric load switch: OFF
(Air conditioner, headlamp, rear window defogger)
- Vehicle speed: Stopped
- Transmission: Warmed-up
- Drive vehicle for 10 minutes.
Do you have CONSULT?
YES
GO TO STEP 2.
NO
GO TO STEP 3.
- AIR FUEL RATIO INITIAL LEARNING
With CONSULT
- Perform "ACCELERATOR PEDAL RELEASED POSITION LEARNING". Refer to WORK PROCEDURE .
- Perform "THROTTLE VALVE CLOSED POSITION LEARNING". Refer to WORK PROCEDURE .
- Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
- Select "A/F INITIAL LEARNING" in "WORK SUPPORT" mode of "ENGINE" using CONSULT.
- Touch "START" and wait 20 seconds.
"CMPLT" displayed on CONSULT screen?
YES
INSPECTION END
NO
GO TO STEP 4.
- AIR FUEL RATIO INITIAL LEARNING
Without CONSULT
NOTE:- It is better to count the time accurately with a clock.
- It is impossible to switch the diagnostic mode when an accelerator pedal position sensor circuit has a malfunction.
- Perform "ACCELERATOR PEDAL RELEASED POSITION LEARNING". Refer to WORK PROCEDURE .
- Perform "THROTTLE VALVE CLOSED POSITION LEARNING". Refer to WORK PROCEDURE .
- Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
- Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
- Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch ON and wait 3 seconds.
- Repeat the following procedure quickly five times within 5 seconds.
- Fully depress the accelerator pedal.
- Fully release the accelerator pedal.
- Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the MIL stops blinking and turned ON.
- Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the MIL turned ON.
- Start engine and let it idle.
- Wait 20 seconds.
INSPECTION END
- DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
Engine component parts and their installation condition are questionable. Check and eliminate the cause of the incident.
It is useful to perform "TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS - SPECIFICATION VALUE". Refer to DESCRIPTION .
If any of the following conditions occur after the engine has started, eliminate the cause of the incident and perform "AIR FUEL RATIO INITIAL LEARNING" all over again:
- Engine stalls
- Erroneous idle

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
