Removal and Installation: Removal

2012 Nissan-Datsun Sentra SE-RSECTION Removal
  1. Disconnect battery negative terminal. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (QR25DE BATTERY) ".
  2. Remove the rocker cover. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATIONΒ ".
  3. Remove the splash shield (RH). Refer to "COMPONENT " .
  4. Support the front of the engine using a suitable jack.
  5. Remove the torque rod and the engine mounting insulator and bracket (RH). Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATIONΒ ".
  6. Remove the coolant overflow reservoir tank.
  7. Disconnect variable timing control solenoid harness connector.
  8. Loosen the IVT control cover bolts in the order as shown below.

    • Remove the IVT control cover by cutting the sealant using Tool.

  9. Set the No. 1 cylinder at TDC on its compression stroke with the following procedure:
    1. Rotate crankshaft pulley clockwise, and align mating marks for TDC with timing indicator on front cover, as shown below.

    2. At the same time, make sure that the mating marks on camshaft sprockets are lined up with the yellow links in the timing chain, as shown below.
      • If not, rotate crankshaft pulley one more turn to line up the mating marks to the yellow links, as shown below.

  10. Disconnect and remove the camshaft position sensor.
  11. Pull the timing chain guide out between the camshaft sprockets through front cover.
  12. Remove camshaft sprockets with the following procedure.
    CAUTION:
    • Do not rotate the crankshaft or camshaft while the timing chain is removed.
    • Rotating the crankshaft or the camshaft after the timing chain has been removed causes interference between the valves and pistons.
