Replacing crankshaft (B36 engine) (Cooper base)

2019 Mini Cooper Base, 2D Convertible, Automatic TransSECTION Replacing crankshaft (B36 engine) (Cooper base)

Special tools required: 

  • 11 6 250
  • 00 2 010
  • 11 6 480
IMPORTANT: Replace main bearing and connecting rod bolts.
When replacing the crankshaft, the main bearing shells and connecting rod bearing shells must be replaced.
There must be no oil in the blind holes (risk of cracking)  .
Do not  wash off screw coating.
Incorrect assembly of the crankshaft bearing caps will result in damage to the crankcase.

Preliminary work needed: 

Removal: 

Check crankshaft SIDE CLEARANCE .

Fit special tool 11 6 250.

If the permitted side clearance is exceeded:

  • Check crankshaft and guide bearing shells.
  • Replace worn components.

NOTE: All main bearing caps (1) are numbered within the highlighted area (bearing position 1 to 4).
The installation position must be maintained.
The main bearing cap 3 is installed as a thrust bearing.

Loosen the screws in the sequence (8) to (1).

Remove all main bearing caps.
