Pinpoint Test DP: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Vehicle Speed: Introduction
The Escape Hybrid has three methods of calculating vehicle speed:
- from the anti-lock brake system (ABS)
- from the transaxle control module (TCM)
- from the PCM engine speed and the TCM generator speed
Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION for more information.
This pinpoint test is intended to determine which of the three vehicle speed inputs caused the PCM vehicle speed diagnostic trouble code (DTC).

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
