Interior Lighting: Notes

NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).

The SJBΒ  controls all of the interior lighting functions. The interior lighting system consists of the following components:

  • SJBΒ 
  • Instrument panel dimmer switch
  • Interior lamps
  • Vanity mirror lamps
  • Door ajar switches (integrated into the door latch)
  • Liftgate ajar switch (integrated into the liftgate latch)
  • Liftgate glass ajar switch (integrated into the liftgate glass latch)
  • Ambient lighting switch (if equipped)
  • Ambient lighting module (if equipped) (mounted under the bottom of the floor console finish panel storage tray)

The interior lighting system may consist of up to 3 subsystems:

  • Courtesy lamps
  • Demand lamps
  • Ambient lighting (if equipped)

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
