Service Intervals: Transaxle/Transmission
Check fluid level at every engine oil change. Band adjustments are not required under normal service. Under normal service, change fluid at 30,000-mile intervals on AX4N, AX4S, 4F27E, 4F50N, 4R70W and 4R100. See DRAINING & REFILLING . On all models, under normal service, change fluid and filter at 150,000-mile intervals. Service all models at 30,000-mile intervals when used under the following conditions:
- In hot weather with temperature greater than 90°F (32°C), carrying heavy loads and/or in hilly terrain.
- Towing a trailer or using a car top carrier.
- In police, taxi or door-to-door delivery service.
- Extreme dusty conditions or off-road use.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
