2001 Mercury Sable LS, 4D Sedan, 3.0 U, AX4SSECTION Test G: DTC C1222 - Wheel Speed Signal Mismatch
NOTE: Any other wheel speed DTC must be diagnosed before proceeding. DTC C1222 can be set during certain repair procedures with key on, vehicle towing, on vehicle wheel balance or dynamometer testing with no actual fault.

  1. Check Vehicle Components

    Check for correct tire size, front to rear and side to side. Check for excessive bearing end play. Check wheel speed sensor for bent or damaged sensor ring or missing teeth. Repair any problems. Clear DTC nad repeat self-test. If all conditions are okay, go to next step.
  2. Test Drive Vehicle

    Clear codes and turn ignition off. Turn ignition on and test drive vehicle at speed greate than 15 MPH. Retrieve DTCs. If DTC C1222 is retrieved, replace ECU. Repeat self-test. If another DTC is retrieved, see ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONSΒ  table. If no DTCs are retrieved, system is operating normally.
