Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
Test E: Moon Roof Does Not Operate (Probe)
- Check moon roof 15-amp fuse. If fuse is okay, go to step 4). If fuse is bad, go to next step.
- Replace 15-amp fuse. Turn ignition on. If fuse fails, go to next step. If fuse does not fail, turn ignition off and go to step 4).
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect connector C4 from fuse panel. See Fig 1. Disconnect roof panel switch connector. Using an ohmm eter, measure resistance of Green/Orange wire between ground and connector C4. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or less, repair Green/Orange wire circuit. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, reconnect connector C4 and go to next step.
- Check Roof Power Supply - Leave ignition off. Disconnect roof panel switch 4-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and Green/Orange wire terminal of 4-pin connector. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Green/Orange wire circuit. If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step.
- Check Moon Roof Panel Switch
- Turn ignition off. Leave roof panel switch wiring harness connector disconnected. Measure resistance between specified connector terminals. See MOON ROOF SWITCH RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS (PROBE). If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace roof console.MOON ROOF SWITCH RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS (PROBE)

Disconnect 3-pin roof panel switch wiring harness connector. Measure resistance between connector Black wire terminal and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 8). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Leave ignition off. Disconnect roof motor wiring harness connector. Measure resistance between Black wire terminal of roof motor wiring harness connector and Black wire screw terminal on roof motor casing. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Black wire circuit between roof motor and roof panel switch. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair roof motor wiring harness connector Black wire circuit and case ground.
- Check Roof Motor
- Leave ignition off. Leave roof motor wiring harness connector disconnected. Using jumper wires, connect power and ground to motor as follows:
- With Yellow wire terminal grounded, apply battery voltage to Yellow/Red wire terminal. Roof panel should open.
- With Yellow/Red wire terminal grounded, apply battery voltage to Yellow wire terminal. Roof panel should close.
If roof panel operates as specified, go to next step. If roof panel does not operate as specified, replace roof motor.
- Check Yellow/Red Wire Circuit
- Leave ignition off, roof panel switch and motor connector disconnected. Disconnect roof panel relay wiring harness connector. Measure resistance of Yellow/Red wire as follows:
- Between motor connector terminal and relay connector terminal.
- Between motor connector terminal and switch connector terminal.
- Between motor connector terminal and ground.
If resistance between connectors is less than 5 ohms, and resistance between connector and ground is 10,000 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair Yellow/Red wire circuit.
- Check Yellow/Blue Wire Circuit
- Leave ignition off. Measure resistance of Yellow/Blue wire as follows:
- Between switch connector terminal and relay connector terminal.
- Between switch connector terminal and ground.
If resistance between connectors is less than 5 ohms, and resistance between connector and ground is 10,000 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair Yellow/Blue wire circuit.
- Check Yellow Wire Circuit
- Leave ignition off. Measure resistance of Yellow wire as follows:
- Between motor connector terminal and relay connector terminal.
- Between relay connector terminal and ground.
If resistance between connectors is less than 5 ohms, and resistance between connector and ground is 10,000 ohms or more, replace roof panel relay. If resistance is not as specified, repair Yellow/Blue wire.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
