Coil Spring & Strut Assembly: Disassembly

1996 Mercury Sable LS, 4D Sedan, 3.0 SSECTION Disassembly

Using a spring compressor, compress strut spring enough to relieve initial tension. Place a box-end wrench on top of strut shaft and hold while removing top shaft nut using a 6-point crowfoot wrench and ratchet. See Fig 1 . Compress strut spring more if necessary. Remove strut shaft nut. Slowly loosen spring compressor and remove top mount bracket assembly, bearing plate assembly and spring. See Fig 2 .
