- Check For Ignition Voltage
Deactivate system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEMΒ . Disconnect air bag diagnostic monitor. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using voltmeter connected to known good ground, connect second lead to C276-6, circuit 298 (Purple/Orange wire). If voltage measured is B+, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, service circuit 298 (Purple/Orange wire) for open. Go to step 6). - Check Circuit 57 (Black) For Open
Using an ohmmeter connected to known good ground, connect second lead to terminal C276-18, circuit 57 (Black wire) and measure resistance to ground. If resistance is less than 3 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, service circuit 57 (Black wire) for open. Go to step 6). - Check For Battery Voltage
Using an ohmmeter connected to known good ground, connect second lead to terminal C276-14, circuit 609 (Orange/Yellow wire) of air bag diagnostic monitor connector. If voltage measure is B+, go to step 6). If voltage is not as specified, go to next step. - Check Battery Fuses
Deactivate system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEMΒ . Check fuse No. 16 (10A) in fuse junction panel. If fuse is open, go to next step. If fuse is not open, service circuit 609 (Orange/Yellow wire) for open. Go to next step 6).WARNING: Certain fault conditions (DTC B1913 or B1914) may cause air bag diagnostic monitor to intentionally open fuse No. 4 (10A) to disarm SRS. DO NOT substitute another fuse value for 10A fuse. Any other fuse value may cause future disarming failure and danger to occupants of vehicle. Once air bag diagnostic monitor has disarmed SRS, it will not attempt to do so again until appropriate fault code (DTC B1913 or B1914) has been cleared. Do not reactivate system until all fault codes have been serviced and repaired. - Check For Short In Harness
Replace open fuse. If fuse does not open again, go to next step. If fuse opens again, service circuit 609 (Orange/Yellow wire) for short to ground. Go to next step. - Check Module Communication
Reconnect system components. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If air bag diagnostic monitor communicates, reactivate system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEMΒ . Check AIR BAG warning light for proper system function. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECKΒ . If air bag diagnostic monitor does not communicate, go to TEST EΒ - DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST FAILURE/AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC MONITOR COMMUNICATION FAULT.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- β’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- β’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- β’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- β’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- β’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
